Well, after many *many* requests, I finally did an Umbreon. I know this will bring about an onslaught of requests for the other 'Eevee-lutions' and yes I'll get to them all... eventually :D It just depends on my yarn stash, my time and well --- motivation. LOL
As with all the patterns, if you have any problems or if you notice anything wrong in the pattern (I'm prone to typos LOL) let me know and I'll get back to ya as soon as I can :D
Umbreon
Materials:

Yarn Needle
BODY:
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around (12)
Rnd 3: sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc around (18)
Rnd 4: sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc around (24)
Rnd 5: sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc around (30)
Rnd 6: sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc around (36)

This is a fairly good place to begin stuffing and shaping if you haven't already. Stuff fairly firmly while also shaping the body. Continue stuffing and shaping as you progress.

FINAL ASSEMBLY:
I highly recommend that you pin all parts together before you begin to sew them, to make certain all parts are as you like and in the position you prefer.
Head is sewn to body as shown, take your time and pin the head on first, making sure that the neck is adequately stuffed, and that the 'nape' of the neck is positioned so as to create the curve of the neck. (See the pictures to help you position the head)
For the yellow markings, cut 5 oval shapes from yellow felt, then cut out the center of each to make the 'rings'. Pin one of them to the head, between the ears and slightly to the front. The other four are each sewn onto the 'shoulders' of the leg pieces. You can do this before you sew the legs to the body, but I would recommend that you first pin the legs in the positions you want on the body, and then pin the markings to the legs as you prefer them, then unpin the legs and sew on the markings (or you can wait to add the markings after sewing on the legs.)
When sewing the legs on, you will probably want to add a little stuffing under each 'shoulder'. Not much stuffing is generally required here, just enough to give a very slight 'roundness' to the shoulder/hip area – and make a smooth transition from leg to 'body'.
Ears and tail are positioned and sewn on as shown.
Eyes are cut from red and black felt scraps, in shapes as shown. Catch lights are very small pieces of white felt.

ReplyDeleteRound 13 of the body asks to crochet ten and then decrease over next two sc around; what exactly does this mean? I crochet from patterns a lot but haven't seen a decrease written in such a way. I understand there needs to be three decreases from the ending stitch count, but where should they be placed? Do they need to be spaced or lumped all at once? Thanks for any help!
It means to sc in each of the next 10 sc, then make a decrease over the next 2 sc, then repeat that sequence (sc in next 10, decrease) around to the end of the round.

Was looking online for patterns for a Link or Sonic outfit to make for my 6yr old son and came across this and just fell in love. I've so got to make this cute Pokemon for him maybe I'll just have him dress up as Ash instead and make a Pikachu to go along. (would be so much easier than Link). Is there possibly any Pikachu style open top bags anyone may know of?

ReplyDeleteI do have a question though... What is the finished size? Likewise, how many skeins of black yarn did you need? I have about 1 and 1/4 skeins of black and a full skein of yellow. Yellow shouldn't be a problem, but I just wanted to see if I needed more black yarn or not.

She stands about 8 inches high, and you won't need a whole skein of black... very very few of my dolls take more than one skein of any color yarn, actually... only Lugia really comes close to needing more than a skein.

Well, what *type* of decrease you use is really dependent on what you're most comfortable with. Personally, I use invisible decreases when working in the round (and standard decreases when working in rows).
ReplyDeleteIf you are comfortable using the invisible decrease, I do highly recommend it where ever possible. :D

ReplyDeleteWell in general, I don't sell any dolls online at all. Primary reason being I don't have a post office to mail them from. I'd have to drive to a town I never go to, except very seldom - and its 45 minutes away from me.

When I see her again, I would love to give her all the Eevees as gifts, as Pokemon is an addiction she inherited from me, but even this Umbreon will be wonderful. First of all,I want to congratulate you for your beautiful creations and thank you for sharing the explanations with us.I first made a pokeball(very quick and easy to make) and I have just finished UMBREON which was my grandson's choice.Although I am not a very expert knitter or crocheter ,thanks to your explanations and good advice, the result is satisfactory even if it is far from being as nice as yours!My grandson is positively delighted!!Now he would like me to make Lugia!!! Why doesn't he choose the easiest ones???I might still give it a try later on, it will be a good challenge...

I absolutely love your dolls! I have been disabled for 6yrs(back surgery gone horribly wrong). Most of the time I am confined to my bed and have really begun to appreciate that I can knit and crochet. My daughter-in-law loves Pokemon. For Christmas I learned how to crochet and made her a Pokeball hat. She loves it! I think I'm going to be sneaky and find out which characters she likes and crochet them for her. I think I like these because they are relatively easy and quick. They come in handy when you are working on a big project and need something to break the monotony. Thank you for your creativity----I only have one problem, is there some way I can print out the patterns without all the comments? It takes as many as 36 pages of wasted paper to get one pattern, and I'm on Social Security so that's a huge expenditure. Can I "set" something on the printer to exclude the comment pages? Yes, you can use DK weight, but I would recommend also using a smaller hook (perhaps c or d)...or whatever size will produce a night tight stitch where the stuffing won't show through :D

The head should be pinned to the upper portion of the body (roughly rnds 24-30)
What confuses me is that I'm only seeing 16 rounds for the head...not 24-30. Could you clarify, please? Thank you!
Lovely pattern, I'm just stuck when it comes to doing the left leg shoulders. When I crochet I'm already looking at the 'wrong' side and the stitches I'm currently working on is at the back. I was just wondering what I would then do when it comes for me to turn the piece and look at the other side to make the shoulder come out the inverse of the right? Sorry if that doesn't make much sense, but thankyou for this pattern anyway :)

ReplyDeleteAwesome pattern! It's easy to understand and the pictures really help. I just finished this as a gift for a friend :) Whenever I make these, though, I always have a problem with the fiberfill being pulled through the stitches when sewing the pieces together. This problem is especially true with the black yarn against white fiberfill. Do you have any advice for this?
ReplyDeletewell they do have a dark colored fiberfill... but it's hard to find and rather expensive when you do.
ReplyDeleteMy best advice is to make your stitches tight (use a smaller size hook if you work loose) and try not to 'over stuff' your pieces. You need them firm, but not so much that they start to show the fiberfill.
It's a dance, but you learn as you go :D

What do you do with the flaps of flat fabric that are at the tops of the legs (on the left legs, this is at the backs of the legs, and on the right at the front)? Also, when attaching the legs, do they go on Umbreon's respective right and left or my right and left when I'm looking at him? Sorry for the silly questions!
ReplyDeleteThey are the 'hips' and 'shoulders'. They go to the outside of the body. If you need more shaping on the front or back legs, you can add a tiny bit of stuffing to give them more dimension. :D
ReplyDeleteThese flaps allow you to place the legs in a more upright fashion rather than the 'stiff' look of most patterns :D

ReplyDeleteI made a Shiny Glaceon using this pattern. If you want I could add a link to some pictures... I didn't write down what I did as I was just winging it for the ears, tail, hairfalls and diamonds. But maybe the pictures would help! The diamonds I used this weird stich that's like crochet mixed with knitting almost... That produces squares... And all I did was make three lil ones of 4x4 for the head diamonds... Two 5x5 for ears... Then back I did like this 12x12 one.... (12 stitches by 12 rows.... Makes a solid square, like no row gaps or anything...)

ReplyDeleteI'm having an issue getting the tail to stay up whenever I sew it on. Do you have any tips?
ReplyDeleteMake sure that the part of the tail that will contact the body is very well stuffed (but not so much so that the stuffing comes through the stitches. The 'firmer' the stuffing of the very bottom of the tail, the better the tail will stand up.
ReplyDeleteIt will also require that you VERY securely sew the tail to the body. It takes a little experience to get these parts to always stand up...but trial and error will get you there. :D

So do you mean turn it inside out?
I thought the inside of the leg was already facing me as I work in rounds anyway??

If you have half a skein of red heart super saver that should about do it. If you have a nearly full one, then you're sure to make it!

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I'm having a very difficult time with the ears as they get bunched up and I have a heck of a time finding the stitch and getting my hook into it. I would LOVE if you could give me any advice that could help me, I've tried putting stitch markers in every stitch but that hasn't really helped much. I would hate to get as far as the ears and have to stop because I can't seem to figure them out. :(

I'm on row 4 for the body. And it said after the 18. There is 24. But it doesn't seem accurate to me. I'm not understanding even the begining.
ReplyDeleteIn round 3 you work one sc in the next sc then 2 sc in the following sc. Repeat this to end of round resulting in 18 sc in the round.
ReplyDeleteDo this on each increase round (adding one sc between each increase sc) to increase each round evenly by 6 stitches.
Have you considered making templates for the felt pieces? I have a hard time cutting them out right on my own.

ReplyDeleteSome yarns are loftier (full of air) and so crush down as you crochet.
This is why I prefer redheart super saver. It's a sense yarn so go E you a firm fabric using the G hook.

Then I chain 1, turn, and I'm supposed to sc in the next 7, and then decrease over 2. According to my math, that's a total of 9 stitches, and not the 8 I have left from the previous row.

Actually no Jester. Sc means single crochet you have the dec (its actually only 1 dec but it covers 2 stiches) then the single crochet, and so on ^-^ hope i helped
