Ampharos

I hope you'll forgive the fact that pictures aren't really all that great,  but the weather has been really crummy outside,  so we took the pics inside.

Ampharos is another of the lesser known pokemon I'm really quite fond of.  The pattern is a bit complicated in that there are quite a few parts to him, and lots of color changes.  Other than that though,  he's not very difficult to make.

I used a yellow color called cornmeal,  it was the closest color I could find to the color of Ampharos in the show and on its cards,  but you can use any color that's close.

As always,  if you find a problem in the pattern,  or if you just need help leave a message and I'll get back at ya as soon as I can.  :)

Ampharos

Weave end through the last round of sc and pull to tighten.   Sew foot to leg as shown.

TAIL:

(Begin to stuff the tail at any point,  but don't wait too long because the long narrow shape will make stuffing very difficult if you wait too long to start,  although using a chopstick or knitting needle is very helpful with stuffing shapes like this)

Rnd 7:  sc in next sc,  dec over next 2 sc around  (12)
Rnd 8:  dec over next 2 sc around  (6)
F/O  stuff ball firmly to shape,  do not close the open end.  Place open end over point of tail as shown and sew on securely.

ASSEMBLY:

Sew head to top of body as shown.  The 'neck' of the body has a shoulder cape that goes up on the back side of the head to give the position as see in the pictures.    Sew ears to side of head as shown. Sew the 'light' to the forehead as shown in the pictures.

Sew the 'belly spot' to the front of the body centered with the head.  The slightly smaller end of the body goes at the bottom.

Sew the legs/feet to the side of the body at the bottom as shown.  Sew the legs securely to the body so as to get the shape as seen in the pictures.

Sew the arms/wings to the sides of the body as shown.

Sew tail to the back of the body,  placing the 'cape' of the open end slightly underneath the body and adjusting the tail to get the position desired.

Cut two small oval shapes from black felt and sew or glue them to the face as shown,  add two very tiny circles of white felt  (or a drop of white fabric paint)  for the catch lights in the eyes.

He is so cute. You did a wonderful job.

This is really cute, and I can't wait to show AJ when he gets home from school. I am almost done with your Mew, doing that for AJ too, then your Luigi for Aiden.

This is my first 3D project and he is so cute! Thanks very much for the pattern. His new owner is chuffed to bits with his wee monster.

could you make a flaaffy?

Trudy said...

just starting this pattern and it's great so far! just one thing; for the ears, I don't think the last change to yellow in rnd 5 is necessary. it doesn't look like it was done in your pictures, and it doesn't really look right. I dunno if that was just a little mistake or what, but I just thought it should be brought to your [and anyone attempting this pattern] attention =]

WolfDreamer said...

Thank you Trudy!

I checked my original document on the computer, and that is not in there, so my best guess is that it got 'added' somehow when I copy/pasted the pattern from my file to the blog editor.

Thank you so much for pointing that out :)

were u thinking of making mareep any time soon

Anonymous said...

what does "repeat once more" mean?

WolfDreamer said...

It means to repeat the sequence that came before.

For instance rnd 2 of the "Arms":

Rnd 2: sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc (repeat once more) (8)

That means to sc in the next 2 sc, 2 sc in the next sc, then repeat once more, so you sc in the next 2 sc, 2 sc in the last sc.

Hope that helps! :D

Hi, this pattern is great, but when you say you normally join your rounds, does that hold true for all your pokemon plushies?

And also do you simply join the last stitch to the first stitch with a slip stitch?

If you could tell me how you do it that would be great!

WolfDreamer said...

Yes, that's true for all my plushies. I learned to join rounds when I first learned to crochet nearly 40 years ago, so I never got comfortable with the 'continuous rounds' style that's common in amigurumi style crochet today.

I just join each round with a slip stitch into the top of first stitch of the round, then chain 1 and work the first stitch of the new round into the same stitch as you joined in.

i love your pokemon! ive been checking your site often for a while and finally decided to start with your ampharos pattern :] i love it so far, everything seems great, except for the ears. i just started one of them and got to round 6, and im not sure if i messed up somewhere, but the black tip of the ear looks sort of small? im not sure if im making myself clear, but its like REALLY short. is it possible that it may fix once stuffed, or should i try adding another black row in there before switching to yellow? thanks for all of your hard work and dedication to this blog! once i finish amphy, umbreons next!

WolfDreamer said...

Yes, the black tip is very short, but it will expand a little when you stuff it... things often look a little 'off' during the crochet phase, but start to make sense when applied to the doll as a whole :D

I am relatively new to 3D crocheting. In your patterns you refer to a magic ring...I am not familiar with that term

WolfDreamer said...

Magic Ring is really just a term for something I grew up calling a slip-ring. Some really nice illustrated instructions are here: http://www.planetjune.com/blog/tutorials/magic-ring-right-handed/ (the left-handed instructions are linked at the top if you need those)

If you work better from video tutorials try this one:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHYVutk2iYY">

Hope that helps. :D

hi i am just about to star on this project but you do not state how much wool/yarn is needed for ampharos or what the finished size is. Please enlighten me

WolfDreamer said...

The pattern used less than a skein of the yellow/gold (with only a few yards of the accent colors). He's about 10 inches tall. (Your yarn use and size may vary some - depending on your hook and yarn choice, and individual tension)

Margaret said...

This is so cool! But what's a shoulder cape? And do the head and neck stay up like that with just normal stuffing, or did you put anything else inside?

WolfDreamer said...

Yes, the head and neck stay up on their own, as long as you stuff the head and neck firmly (but not so much as to bulge the neck causing distortion or the stuffing to show through)

The 'cape' is the slightly longer section of the opening which acts as a balance for the placement of the pieces. It allows you to place the piece at a slight angle, instead of always just 'sticking straight out' and looking awkward. :D

Please make a mareep!! I am dying to make one for my boyfriend who loves Pokemon, and I'm sure he would love to have one!!

Vulpixgirl said...

ZOMG an Ampharos!!! X3 Even though my favorite Pokemon is Vulpix, I kinda like Ampharos too. I was playing Pokemon Heartgold and was having trouble with the first gym (since I decided to be stupid and picked Chikorita), so I went to catch a Mareep, and after raising it to the proper level, I was attached to it. LOL Now, Fluffy is an excellent addition to my team and I love her so much. X3 I sincerely thank you very much for posting this pattern!!! X3

I love your projects!
I can't wait to learn how to crochet so I can make all these cute little critters. :)

Anonymous said...

I just love your plushies. I've been crocheting for a few weeks now and already getting into plushies. I just want to know how do you figure out the pattern for what ever it is you're trying to make. I've only recently learned how to read patterns and still learning.

Unknown said...

Ampharos is my favorite Pokemon! I'm planning on making this as soon as I get the materials! :) How do you figure these out? There's a bunch I'd really love to make.

WolfDreamer said...

Well I don't know how to explain exactly how I 'figure them out', I've been designing them for years, along with other items.. so I guess at this point it just happens :D

I have many other pokemon I've designed patterns for, they're all listed in the 'Patterns' on the right hand side of the page (along with other characters as well) I always add the new patterns to the list... so they're easy to find :D

Unknown said...

That's so cool! :D I never knew making plushies with crochet was possible!

I found you by accident and I'm so glad I did. Your work is outstanding. Thank you so much for sharing!

about how big is it?

Mishalion said...

So I'm trying to make this, but I can't quite figure out how the numbers are working. Am I missing a step or something? I don't quite understand how for the body, the third round is supposed to end with 24 but you only add 2, same for everywhere else, or how by taking away two, you end up going from 30 to 25... This is my first time crocheting something like this, and also my first time using a pattern to crochet, so I might just be missing something...

WolfDreamer said...

You repeat the sequence of sc in the next sc, 2 sc in the next sc around to the beginning of the round.

You are adding 8 sc per round to create a circle that will become the bottom of the body.

Same with the decreases, you repeat the sequence around to the end of the round... decreasing by 5 sc for the round.

Hope that helps a bit :D

Your post is so good that I've read it several times. Most of what you say makes sense to me. I recommend you check out Roblox Auto Clicker, which is a free auto clicker for Roblox mobile devices, as well as a fast auto clicker for PC, Android, and it also offers the option to randomize clicking speed to avoid auto clicker detection, which sometimes occurs when using auto clickers for games and game servers.
