^^ That person is being really rude. I really hope you're joking.

She worked hard on her patterns and offer them for free so you should appreciate it instead of being so mean. I know it feels frustrating to work hard on something but it won't be as good as someone else's, but still, venting your anger on her is just unreasonable. You should study her patterns and try to improve instead. At least you're still better than me, I can't even make a single thing from scratch. I always need to rely on other people's patterns.

I really love this pattern. I'm gonna make a whole army and put them on my bed <3 I just wish I know how to make different expressions for them :)

Ok y'all.. Nobody is mad! Least of all me!

I don't know of all the other people with patterns for dolls online, I just make what I like :D

I would love to see her minion, I bet its awesome, and the great thing about the minions, is that each one is different... with their own little personality and quirks and looks! :D

By the way... there is a cute little program online http://www.despicable.me/pops/minionMaker/?lang_id=uk where you can go and 'create your own' little minion... it might give some of you ideas of how to create your own unique minion! :D

Posting free patterns online is all about sharing... this isn't a competition... It's all fun and I love every minute. Enjoy what you do, cause each and every creation out there is unique!

I´m just curious about what kind of yarn you use for all your amazing figures? :)

WolfDreamer said...

For the dolls, I use RedHeart Super Saver Solids. I use this yarn for several reasons:

1. It's easily available and inexpensive.
2. It has a good hand, and is sturdy enough to stand up to what a doll is going to dish out. It's also fully washable.
3: It's no dye lot. So if I run out in the middle of a doll I can always get more and it will match.

There are alot of nice soft yarns out there, but save those yarns for clothes or blankets, use the SuperSaver yarns for the dolls (There are other brands of yarn similar to the SuperSaver brand they work just as well)

I have yet to see them film either but when we went to the cinema recently they had a trailer for this film and I loved the little minions instantly from just that 30 seconds. Decided I needed to crochet myself a little minion army!

This pattern captures them perfectly ^.^ I can sence I'm going to end up with quite a few. Thank you ever so much for such a brilliant pattern!

A friend of mine who has a job working on subtitles (sp?!) has already watched it over 20 times for her job to which I'm am so jelous. Think I'm going to have to make her one as well, I know she'll adore it!

Thank again for your brilliant patterns!

I just love this pattern - I wanted to make something for my son but everything seems so girly and this will be perfect!! Could you tell me how tall the finished product is? I like to plan all the kids gifts evenly so I need to know if I'm making him one minion or many.

Thanks

WolfDreamer said...

My minion is 10 inches tall.

Yours may be a little taller or shorter, depending on your yarn, hook and tension.

Even with supersaver yarn, some colors have a 'softer' hand to them, and items made from those particular colors will end up smaller than an exact copy in a different color (with a firmer hand).

Fortunately with dolls, it's not all that critical to get an exact size :D

Grace said...

thanks for all the time and effort you put into your patterns! they are all so cute! i was thinking of designing a minion, so you've saved me the work :D the overalls look great on the minion! i made a pattern for stewie griffin from family guy, and the way i did it, it doesn't look as smooth, so i might try your method :) your patterns are awesome! i'll have to add some to the long list of plushies i want/need to make, lol, thanks again! you're a champ!

i've been crocheting for about 10 years solid now, hook in hand every day. 2 years ago my husband bought me a book of ami patterns and i've been stuck on stuffed since then. Out of all the free sites i've been on, you have the most amazing patterns. My husband asked me last night why i'm not that talented. He was itching to get smacked i guess. But i love all your patterns and i'll be making all of them!

WolfDreamer said...

LOL, your husband sounds an awful lot like my husband! (In which case, you should probably go ahead and smack him, 'cause I'm pretty sure he deserves it. **grins** )

I'm so glad you like the patterns! And as for designing your own - I bet you could! I didn't know I could do it either, till I tried! :D

I have so many friends who like me looooove the minions and I got so mad @ my boyfriend for not getting me the movie that came with the toy. Did I already say I love you?? :)

Unknown said...

I'm so grateful there are creative people like you who are willing and able to post your patterns online for all of us to use. I absolutely adored your minion, so much that I made one for my niece for Christmas. Here is a link to a picture of my husband pretending to eat the little guy. http://www.flickr.com/photos/58131712@N08/5337324325/
This is the first Amigurumi I have ever made, and I have to say your instructions made it very simple and understandable. Plus, he seems to be holding up well to all the love my niece (who is five) and her classmates can dish out. Unfortunately his eye's are starting to come unbound, but that's no problem as my brother is going to use velcro so his eyes will be interchangeable (I'm currently working on one big eye) :-)
Thank you again, I will be giving your other patterns a go when I find some spare time!

Ok, I noticed that you use Red Heart as well, and I couldn't seem to find a yellow like yours. The one I picked up was kind of orangey (which I actually used for my Bomb-omb's feet, thanks for that pattern too *grin*)

This comment is a response to Trilliana, the color I'm using to make my Minion is Red Heart Brt Yellow color # 0324 I got mine at Walmart. It's the perfect minion yellow.

Thank you so much for this pattern :) I just saw the movie the other night and I totally LOVED it. My 9 year old daughter does too so I am making this for her.

Something i found easier is making the body to about round 20. stopping. making the eyes and goggles. sewing them on the head of the body. I also did the hair too before continuing with the body.

I just find it so much easier to sew things on if the project is hollow, not stuffed yet.

This is a pure joy yo make. thank you so much again for everything you share! What a blessing you are!! :)

Unknown said...

Great job!! I'm having some trouble with the hands/arms. Can you provide some tips? It's hard to see the loops when using the black yarn

WolfDreamer said...

To be honest, I hate working with black or very dark colors because I have a devil of a time seeing the stitches.

The only tip I can give you, is when you're working with black or very dark colors, use a real good light.. I have a work light I use when I'm working with dark colors.

There really isn't any trick to working with dark yarns, other than a good light and patience :D

I am so excited to make a minion for my boyfriend's birthday next week.
His birthday is in March, so he might just get a couple..maybe dress them up like they did on their shopping spree!

Thank you so much for this lovely pattern! I found it on Ravelry!

Chrissy said...

this pattern worked up quickly...one question though...is he done in spiral or joined rounds you never specify. I used joined rounds for the body and spiral for the arms and legs. I also crocheted the emblem for the pants in thread because i hate using felt and also crocheted the black for the eyes. I love the result though

Yay! Instructions. I saw this movie in the theater & decided I had to have my own minion so I went out & purchased mustard colored yarn & wiggle eyes to make one. Not really knowing how to begin the yarn got packed up in my stuff when we moved & now that you have shared instructions I can't wait to get my yarn back.

Diana said...

Hi! This is just great, you just made my dream come true: my very own Minion! :D lol; I'm following your every instruction and I was just wondering how did you do the mouth? I don't if I need better glasses already, but I noticed that it's not a piece of felt you used and I just love the way you did it. Can you tell me, please?:D

D.

WolfDreamer said...

The instructions for that mouth are in the 'assembly' part of the pattern.

For mouth: On this minion, I just used some of the yellow yarn, and whipstitched around one row of sc for a few scs to create the 'pouty' lower lip and then took a large stitch across the top and slightly below the 'lip' to create the shape. Tug very gently on this large stitch to create the look of the mouth.

Diana said...

Oh! I missed that! Thank you!! :D

That is a great pattern. You're very good at crocheting did you come up with the patterns on your own? How do you think of patterns im new at crocheting and some patterns I want to crochet they dont have online. If you could give mee a few tips on how to come up wit patterns

WolfDreamer said...

Well, I've been crocheting for about 37 years, so most of it just comes naturally. The easiest way is to break down the thing you want to make into its obvious parts, and those parts into a basic shape, then you build it back up from that basic shape. Once you done it a few times, it gets alot easier :D

Anonymous said...

Thank you so much for your help. I hope to get as good as you one day. Thank you so much for posting your pattern.

Amber said...

Hi there,

Thank you so much for this pattern, I am making my first minin and he is coming out great!

I am having difficulty with the arms/hands, and apologize if this seems like a silly question, as I am sure I am just missing something obvious

"Rnd 5: working in front loops only, 2 sc in each sc around (12)
F/O and weave in ends.
Attach yellow to any free loop from round 5.
Rnd 1: sc in same free loop as joining. Sc in each of next 5 free loops around (6)"

Firstly, how do I attach the yellow to round 5?

Secondly, if round 5 has 12 stiches, and the arms are only 6, I don't understand how this will make a nice base round within the hand to build up the arm. 6 stiches only goes halfway around the hand, and then I need to jump back, so it is not looking right. Does this make sense? I guess I am just confused as to how to go from 12 stiches in a round to 6 in a round cleanly.

Sorry for the bother and thank you so much!

Amber

WolfDreamer said...

When you worked round 5, you worked the stitches through the 'front loops only' of each of the six stitches. This leaves a 'free loop' behind and at the base of the 12 stitches of round 5. The yellow is attached to one of the 'free loops' behind the stitches of round 5 (there are 6 free loops - so you should have 6 sc in yellow for the arm). The 12 stitches from round 5 you did previously will form the 'wrist band' of the gloves that stick out slightly from the hand and arm.

If you've never worked 'front loops only' there are some great videos on YouTube you can look up that will help :D

Angie Simmons said...

Thank you for the pattern, I made this minion for my daughter inlaw for Easter. She loved it. He now keeps her company at work.

Anonymous said...

wat does F/O stand for?

WolfDreamer said...

F/O stands for 'Fasten Off' or 'Finish Off' (basically it means cut and secure the yarn) :D

Anonymous said...

when u say "dec over next 2 sc around" do u mean to skip 2 sc or to only skip 1? im very confused with the decreasing im not very good at reading paterns and im having some difficulties... thank u

WolfDreamer said...

It means to make a standard crochet decrease over the next two sc. I don't recommend 'skipping' a stitch for a decrease ... and especially when making dolls or amigurumi, it leaves holes in the work which are unsightly ... but in dolls it will allow the stuffing to show through.

If you need help doing a standard crochet single crochet decrease, you can do an internet search for 'single crochet decrease' or better yet, you can go to youtube and do the same search there - youtube is FULL of awesome videos that will help you with everything you need to know in crochet :D

Anonymous said...

thank u so much, u have been such a great help ive just finished my first minion and he is soo cute. do u by any chance know any "teddy bear" patterns?

WolfDreamer said...

ummm. well, I do have a teddy bear pattern on my etsy ( http://wolfdreameroth.etsy.com) although there are other patterns out there .... but hey, you know I gotta make some money somehow LOL

I'll be honest, there are SO many teddy bear patterns out there, you can do a search for them, but if you don't find any that suit you, check out my pattern on etsy, it might be more what you're looking for :D

Raen said...

He's adorable, but how did you make such a top-heavy guy stand on those tiny little legs? Mine won't balance at all.

WolfDreamer said...

His little arms are just long enough to use as a 'tripod' effect to help him stand... but mostly I have mine parked up on the shelf kinda propped up on the back stop :D

Mei said...

Hi there, you're a STAR! I was planning to come up with a minion design but thankfully I found yours. As I'm begining to set up a business of selling some crocheted toys, I was just wondering if I could sell the finished Minion? I'm fairly new to all these copyright and licensing matters, so I just wanted to ask if it's ok. Was planning to set up a small stall at a local crafts market. I will definitely credit photos and the pattern back to you but if selling the toy isn't ok, then I'll respect that. Thank you :)

WolfDreamer said...

Well, technically it's illegal to sell for profit something that is copyrighted or trademarked by someone else without their express permission (license) to do so. This is a great part of why I give away these patterns. They're for personal use, not for profit making :D

However, if someone you know who doesn't crochet, would like you make them one, and wishes to compensate you for your time and material used... I don't think there's anything wrong with that, as long as you aren't 'marketing' them. :D

Mei said...

Thanks for that. I actually do love crocheting a lot and have got very confused because all my friends are urging me to sell my handcrocheted toys and that's how the whole thing came about. Well, looks like it's back to the drawing board for my craft stall :P I would have to make original toys. Thanks again :)

Anonymous said...

This Pattern is great I love it you are really good at crocheting. I started making a minion for my daughter and Im stuck on the hand part about the thumb I was wondering if you could give me a tip on it. Thanks for the pattern. I love all your patterns thanks again.

WolfDreamer said...

With the thumb, you're basically just chaining 2 and then crocheting back down the chain, and then continuing on the round. on the next round, just hold that 'thumb' away from your work, towards you, while you continue to crochet behind it (so that the thumb sort of sticks out from the hand)

Isabelle said...

1) sc in 2nd ch from hook and next ch, sc in Each of Remaining 3 sc of round (6) sc and 1 'thumb')
2) Rnd 35: dec over next 2 sc around (7)
also if I could say it's the magic ring.
would help me a lot if you answer, because in other pages on the internet there is nothing as complete as what you have here.
goodbye

how much yellow yarn did you use for your minion?

WolfDreamer said...

I used just under a third of a skein of yarn for the minion. How much yarn you'll need will depend on the yarn, hook and your tension, but probably not more than half a skein of yarn.

I used RedHeart Super Saver yarn for the doll (as I do with all the dolls)

Hi Wolfdreamer-
I've never posted a comment on a blog before but felt the need to post here. Your dolls are so amazing. I've never crocheted anything but have a book to learn and seeing your amazing dolls has given me the motivation to pick up the book this weekend and learn. All of your doll patterns are exactly what my kids are into. I'm so excited to learn to crochet and eventually work up to making some of these dolls.

In your opinion, what would be the easiest to start with...especially regarding Pokemon.

Thanks so much for this pattern! I have been looking all over for a pattern for minions. Because my children are infatuated with them. I was going to design my own but i am NOT an amigurumi person. Your pattern is easy to follow and very well thought out! My children adore them thanks so much!

Actually, im not sure if the one in the link is the original....Before I found this found one(http://www.amigurumipatterns.net/Cartoons-Games/Despicable-Minion/) but it might not be theres.

WolfDreamer said...

That link is just a link to my page here. They just use other people's patterns to get people to 'like' their page... its a rather side-handed way to get likes they otherwise couldn't get.

Thank you for the free pattern!! Just made one for my nephew for his birthday and my 2 year old daughter just loves it and so does my son, so I better make more!

LOVE LOVE LOVE the pattern. I loved the Despicable Me movie and don't get tired of watching it...love those cute little minions. Nice pattern, easy to follow...But how big is the minion? And how long did it take you to make it. I ask because I am a crocheter, and I try to gauge my crafts' time... Thanks for posting it.

So I don't know if anybody's tried this yet, but I'm doubling the minion's size (I really did think he was at least 20" tall in your photo) and it seems to be going well. If you're interested, I'd be happy to send a picture when he's all done.

Thank you for sharing the pattern!

Thank you so much for sharing this pattern. I just made one for my brother as a Christmas gift and I'm really happy with the result!

Your instructions were super easy to follow and left me room to give my own spin on the gloves, eyes and goggles - I used felt - and looks just like the original character.

Thanks again!

*GASP* AHHHHH!!! I'm so happy! Ever since watching the movie, I've always thought what great plushies that minions would make. As a beginning crocheter, I don't know why I never thought to search patterns online!!! Thanks so much! Can't wait to go buy supplies and get started!

I found the instructions for the mouth in the pattern, but am still a little bit confused. Would you mind giving some more specific instructions on how to do the mouth? Thanks!

I am an experienced crocheter and rarely do I find a pattern that is written so well. I usually make changes all over the place and while I made a few, they weren't many! I am selling this one but I will not make any more for anything but gifts. Thank you for sharing your pattern.

I've been wanting to make this adorable crochet minion you created for a very long time! Since last year sometime but I haven't gotten around to it until yesterday! He is so much smaller than I anticipated, but I love that. I still have to finish the last details (which I am working on right now), his hair, mouth, pupils and Gru's logo. The cutest thing I have ever made. I've made some pretty gosh darn cute things. The minion wins. Thank you for this pattern! (I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out what a whipstitch is in this regard).

Fantastic minion! I would like to make one for my step daughter! I have one question regarding the start of the body is the pattern referring to joined circles or continuing circles? Do I need to do an extra chain in-between each circle? LOL a question in the first instruction!!
Thank you!!

Thank you for your cute pattern! I just want to ask you how and where i should attach the yellow yarn to the glove, as it has 12 stitches and the arm begins with 6. Thank you!

Hi there,

I love your pattern! I am making this for my husband who is a big Minion fan...lol. I have done the body and the overall but I am having trouble starting the hands. Is there any way you can refer me to a video that will show me how it is done? Or, maybe you can make it a bit easier as far as reading the instructions, I would surely appreciated!
Thank you!!!!

Hi, im sorry to bother you at all, but I would be so happy and grateful if you made a pattern for Olaf the snowman from Disney's Frozen. I don't know if you really do requests or anything, but I've been searching all day and can't find anything satisfactory and I know you would do it wonderfully.just like you do everything. Thank you for reading and maybe considering this.

Minion hats are sold in various styles but you can also make your own like stated in this post. However, The beanie knit minion cap has been a popular favorite of the various types of hats. People simply love this hat and I know you will too!

http://minionhat.com to view the various styles of hats - you can base your own crocheting and knitting off of the styles listed.

But I want to ask you if you could make a video tutorial. It's easier for me to see what you're doing, instead of reading the pattern. Hope you know what I mean.
Happy new year.

Hi, just wanted to let you know that an Etsy shop is selling this pattern: https://www.etsy.com/listing/450957546/despicable-minion-amigurumi-crochet?ref=related-1. I'm assuming that since the pattern is still here (and free), the seller doesn't have your permission.

WolfDreamer said...

FricklySpeaking, thanks! I sent a message asking the individual to remove it. They have alot of free DIY tutorials for sale there - but I can only speak for mine. Sad there are so many scammers out there. ~ Linda
